IAR field - Coverage

Mandatory: NO
Repeatable: NO

Geographic area covered by the information in the resource, as precisely as possible.

Examples

Coverage: SW1A, City of Westminster, London, England, UK.
Coverage: Lake District, Cumbria, UK, and Cornwall, UK
Coverage: South Bank (Southwark, London. UK)

Notes

As a general rule, try to use a term that can be found on a map.

Remember that the IAR will be searched by people from overseas who may be unfamiliar with UK place names, and that many place names are duplicated in other countries, so always specify the country concerned, e.g. UK, Wales, France.

For geographic areas inside the UK, it may be preferable to use post codes if no other accurate description is available. For information retrieval purposes, these should be accompanied by a place name.

Where an "unofficial" term is used, give the official term (i.e. one that can be found on a map) as well.
