The Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) Order 1991

Made 24th September 1991
Laid before Parliament 2nd October 1991
Coming into force 23rd October 1991

    The Secretary of State for the Environment, as respects England, the Secretary of State for Scotland, as respects Scotland, and the Secretary of State for Wales, as respects Wales, in exercise of the powers conferred upon them by section 9(4)(a) of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989[1] and all other powers enabling them in that behalf, hereby make the following Order—
        1.    This Order may be cited as the Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) Order 1991 and shall come into force on 23rd October 1991.
        2.    The amount specified for the purposes of section 9(3) of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (assistants for political groups) is £22,842.
        3.    The Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) Order 1990[2] is hereby revoked.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Order)
    One of the requirements relating to the terms on which a person is appointed to or holds an appointment in pursuance of section 9 of the Local Government and Housing Act 1989 (assistants for political groups) is that the annual rate of remuneration for the post is less than £13,500 or such higher amount as the Secretary of State may specify. A higher amount, namely £21,468, was specified under the Local Government (Assistants for Political Groups) (Remuneration) Order 1990. This Order revokes the 1990 Order and specifies £22,842 as the relevant amount for any such appointment in England, Scotland or Wales.
