ROAD TRAFFIC

The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Amendment) Regulations 1995

    The Secretary of State for Transport, in exercise of the powers conferred by sections 89(3)[1] and (4)(b)[2], 105(1), (3) and (4), 108(1)[3] and 192(1)[4] of the Road Traffic Act 1988[5], after consulting with representative organisations in accordance with section 195(2) of that Act, and with the approval of the Treasury, hereby makes the following Regulations:—
        1.    These Regulations may be cited as the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) (Amendment) Regulations 1995 and shall come into force on 29th May 1995.
        2.    The Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1987[6] shall be amended in accordance with regulations 3 and 4 below.
        3.—(1)  Regulation 19[7] (Fees in respect of tests) shall be amended as follows.

        (2)  In paragraph (3)—
       (a) in sub-paragraph (a), for "£35" there shall be substituted "£36"; and
       (b) in sub-paragraph (b), for "£27.50" there shall be substituted "£28.50".

        (3)  In paragraph (3A)—
       (a) in sub-paragraph (a), for "£46.50" there shall be substituted "£47.50"; and
       (b) in sub-paragraph (b), for "£37.50" there shall be substituted "£38.50".

        (4)  In paragraph (5), for "£27.50" there shall be substituted "£28.50".
        4.—(1)  Regulation 19A[8] (Fees in respect of extended tests) shall be amended as follows.

        (2)  In paragraph (3)—
       (a) in sub-paragraph (a), for "£70" there shall be substituted "£72"; and
       (b) in sub-paragraph (b), for "£55" there shall be substituted "£57".

        (3)  In paragraph (4)(a) for "£92" there shall be substituted "£95".
        5.    Regulations 3 and 4 above shall not apply in the case of an application for an appointment for a test duly made before 29th May 1995.

EXPLANATORY NOTE

(This note is not part of the Regulations)
    These Regulations amend regulations 19 and 19A of the Motor Vehicles (Driving Licences) Regulations 1987 so as to increase, for test applications made on or after 29th May 1995, the fees for ordinary driving tests and London taxi drivers' tests and some of the fees for extended driving tests ordered by the court under section 36 of the Road Traffic Offenders Act 1988.
    The test fees applicable after the coming into force of these Regulations (with the percentage increase in each one since last year shown in brackets) are as follows—
    ORDINARY TESTS
    Test for Test begun between 0830 and 1630 Monday to Friday Test taken in evening or at weekend
    Categories A and P £36.00 (2.9%) £47.50 (2.2%)
    Other categories (not LGV/PCV) £28.50 (3.6%) £38.50 (2.7%)
    EXTENDED TESTS
    Test for Test taken Monday to Friday Test taken Saturday
    Categories A and P £72.00 (2.9%) £95.00 (3.3%)
    Other categories (not LGV/PCV) £57.00 (3.6%) £77.50 (Nil)
    LONDON TAXI DRIVERS' TESTS
    Test conducted at any time by the Metropolitan Police Commissioner £28.50 (3.6%)
