MAGISTRATES' COURTS

The Magistrates' Courts Committees (Berkshire and Oxfordshire) Amalgamation Order 1995

Whereas the magistrates' courts committees for the areas of Berkshire and Oxfordshire have submitted proposals to the Lord Chancellor under section 69(1) of the Police and Magistrates' Courts Act 1994^[1] for the amalgamation of the magistrates' courts committees for those areas:

And whereas the provisions of section 69(2) of that Act have been complied with:

Now, therefore, the Lord Chancellor, in exercise of the powers conferred on him by section 69(3) and (8) of that Act, hereby makes the following Order:

    1.    This Order may be cited as the Magistrates' Courts Committees (Berkshire and Oxfordshire) Amalgamation Order 1995 and shall come into force for the purposes of articles 2 and 4 on 1st April 1996 and for all other purposes on 30th September 1995.

    2.    The magistrates' courts committees for the two areas of Berkshire and Oxfordshire shall be abolished.

    3.    There shall be constituted as a body corporate a new magistrates' courts committee which shall be known as the Berkshire and Oxfordshire magistrates' courts committee.

    4.    The area of the Berkshire and Oxfordshire magistrates' courts committee shall consist of the two counties of Berkshire and Oxfordshire.

    5.    The transitional and consequential provisions set out in the Schedule to this Order shall have effect in connection with the provisions of articles 2 and 3 of this Order.
